Continue contributing to your UK pension while an expat

Did you know that if you left the UK within the past 5 years, you can still obtain tax relief on limited contributions to a UK pension?

That’s right, even if you don’t have UK earnings you can make net contributions of GBP2,880 per annum to a UK personal pension and obtain a further GBP720 contribution from HMRC, via tax relief at source.

Granted, this is not a huge amount of money. However, I generally work with a rule that the more money that can (lawfully) be taken from the tax man, the better.

This option is available in each of the 5 tax years after the year in which an individual leaves the UK.
